The school holidays are here and you might be wondering about family activities and days out with the kids available to you this summer. If you have kids you know how important it is to engage their active minds, and at Visit Hillbrush we offer a range of things to keep you and the little ones occupied!
If you’re out and about and looking for somewhere to grab a bite to eat and a drink, our restaurant is an ideal and welcoming venue. We offer a large menu of locally sourced food and snacks, an artisan coffee bar, and a drinks menu. We are extremely family friendly and there is even a special menu just for children. We have parasols on our terrace, so it is possible to spend time both inside and out to enjoy the weather. Dogs are also welcome on the terrace (guide dogs are welcome inside, too).
Once you have sated your appetite, you can browse the many colourful wares in our shop, many of which make fantastic gifts. Then there is our brushmaking museum, where you can learn about the many different brush types and fibres from around the world, as well as discover our company history which dates back to 1922! There are tactile displays for the kids, engaging videos, and displays full of quirky and interesting brushware.
We also offer free Kids Activity Booklets (you can ask for these at the tills) and offer a children’s seating area where they can colour and fill out their booklets.
We do hope you’ll pop in to see us this summer!
Thank you to everyone who attended our first event at Visit Hillbrush. Our Wine Tasting and Live Music evening, in partnership with Yapp Brothers Wine Merchants of Mere was a great success. We had around seventy people in attendance and anyone visiting the centre during the day might have noticed something was afoot, with Yapp’s signature van sitting conspicuously in our car park.
The festivities kicked off at 6:30pm with a wide variety of wines available for tasting, ranging from reds, whites and rosés to cater to different palates. We were lucky to have such a gorgeous evening which meant a lot of the merriment could take place outside on our terrace.
Yapp’s in-house band Ziggurat provided an up-beat backdrop of French inspired music. Instead of remaining stationary the band weaved among guests from time to time. This versatility meant that their performance was much more personal, and they really felt like part of the crowd.
We look forward to holding many more events in the future. If you missed out this time around or you would like to keep up to date on what we have in the pipelines, you can find our events page here. You can also follow us on Twitter and Facebook for updates and announcements.
If you’ve been wondering what we have on offer at Visit Hillbrush, or you’ve already been to see us and you simply want to relive your experience, you can now take a sneak peek inside our restaurant, museum and shop via our 360° Google Image Tour!
Andy Fletcher at 360image visited us recently and set up the tour and we are extremely grateful to him for highlighting all the different and fascinating aspects of the centre. You can even step outside onto our terrace or into our car park for a look around.

Today we are featuring our Ricotta and Butternut Squash Macaroni Cheese served with Garlic Ciabatta. This works great for either lunch or dinner; the macaroni cheese is quite light and creamy, but with the garlic ciabatta this dish becomes rather filling. It’s one of our vegetarian dishes (although carnivores will also enjoy it, as it’s so tasty!). The garlic bread is crispy on the outside and deliciously warm and buttery.
You can find a full menu of our dishes and drinks by clicking here. If there is anything not on the menu, or anything you are unsure of, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
Glastonbury festival gates open this evening and it looks like the week is going to be a scorcher. With many of you travelling through the area we imagine you’ll be looking for ways to keep cool, hydrated and well fed! We welcome festival goers to our restaurant where we offer a nice selection of beers, as well as many non-alcoholic cold and hot drinks! Our menu is packed with variety, and all ingredients are locally sourced because we believe in supporting fellow local businesses.
We hope you will drop by on your way either to or from the festival! Find us just off the A303, Gillingham/Mere exit.
