History & Vision

Hillbrush was founded in 1922 by Fred and Bill Coward, the company began in the small rural town of Mere, Wiltshire. They called their business ‘The Hill Brush Company’, because it was located at the base of the distinctive Castle Hill you will see if you visit Mere today. It originally specialised in dairy and agricultural brushes, but within a few years many streets were being swept with brushes made by Hillbrush. Our unrivalled experience and expertise has contributed to our prolonged success, with Hillbrush now producing almost three thousand different products, supplied to over 90 countries across the globe.

Visit Hillbrush began its life in 2017, having been a dream of our Chairman, Philip Coward, to have the first brush making museum in the UK. With the company move to Norwood park at the end of 2016, the dream became a reality and building work commenced.

As the space grew, it transformed from a rough shell to a beautifully furnished museum, shop and restaurant with the help of family and staff members. Visit Hillbrush opened its doors in April 2017 and has been growing from strength to strength - now boasting an impressive 100 covers, plus terrace seating and availability to hire the space.

“It is our belief that passion is one of the most important aspects of business culture, which is why we ensure we use the finest ingredients or pick the best cakes or choose the most interesting and suitable products. We like to know that our guests and team are happy and we make it our daily goal”
